What is the time difference between IST and CST?

India Standard Time runs 11 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Central Standard Time (CST, UTC-6). To convert IST to CST, subtract 11 hours and 30 minutes. 12:00 IST is 00:30 CST the same day.

The offset is fixed. India never changes its clocks. Central time, however, switches between CST and CDT twice a year.

CST vs CDT: which one applies?

Central Standard Time (UTC-6) runs from early November to mid-March in the US and Canada. The rest of the year, Central Daylight Time (CDT, UTC-5) is in effect.

  • IST to CST: subtract 11 hours 30 minutes
  • IST to CDT: subtract 10 hours 30 minutes

Scheduling a meeting in July? Use the CDT rule. January? Use the CST rule. The difference is a full hour.
